Because of that, we cannot confirm whether a person is in custody, arrange a release, post bond, schedule a visit, or pull an official booking or arrest record for you. Those answers come only from the agency that holds the original record. The lists below point you to the right office for each kind of request in Stamford and across Connecticut.

Where to Send Each Kind of Request

Connecticut runs one statewide correction system, so Stamford has no county sheriff and no county jail roster. County jails were folded into the state Department of Correction back in 1968. A person arrested in Stamford may be processed by city police, taken to the Stamford courthouse for arraignment, and then, if held, moved into state custody. Current Custody and Inmate Search

People held after a Stamford arrest usually end up in Connecticut Department of Correction custody, often at Bridgeport Correctional Center, the state facility that serves Stamford Superior Court. The state runs the only current-custody locator, and it updates daily rather than in real time. When the online search comes up empty or unclear, the Public Information Office is the official fallback. The locator covers both accused and sentenced people, so a listing there does not prove a conviction.

Stamford Police: Fresh Arrests and Reports

For an arrest that just happened, the city police are the first call. They handle dispatch questions, processing, and incident or arrest reports. The Records Division strongly prefers email requests, and the public records room keeps limited hours, so call ahead before you drive over. Include a report number when you have one. If you do not, give the name, the date and time, the location, and the type of incident so staff can find the file.

Court Dates and Case Records

Court dates, dockets, and case files are kept by the Connecticut Judicial Branch, not by the police or the jail. Most Stamford arrests run through Geographical Area No. 1 at Stamford Superior Court. The Chief Clerk's office can confirm a court date and explain how to request a written case record, while Bail Services handles bond questions. You can also look up pending and decided cases yourself through the Judicial Branch portal, though that lookup is a public service and not the official court record.

Federal, Immigration, and Notifications

Some people are not in city or state custody at all. Federal defendants and sentenced federal inmates are tracked by the Bureau of Prisons. People held for Immigration and Customs Enforcement are not in the state database, so a separate locator applies.
